E-commerce Migration

Shopify to Custom Website Migration

You built real traction on Shopify — then hit the platform's ceiling: app fees stacking up, a transaction cut on every sale, and checkout logic you're not allowed to touch. We migrate you to a custom Laravel storefront without losing a ranking or an order. URL mapping, permanent redirects, and structured-data parity, done before your old store goes dark.

What you land on is the same build behind our custom e-commerce development service — a Laravel storefront, not a rented theme. This page is specifically about the move off Shopify: mapping, redirects, and data, without breaking what already works.

When it's actually time

Six signs Shopify has become the wrong tool

None of these are a knock on Shopify — it's a genuinely good platform for a lot of businesses. These are the specific points where the platform starts costing more than it's worth.

The app-stack bill outgrew the store

Reviews, upsells, SEO, subscriptions, email — five or six app subscriptions stacking $200–$600/mo before you've built anything custom of your own.

A transaction fee on every single sale

Skip Shopify Payments for a processor you actually want, and Shopify keeps an extra cut of every order on top of standard card fees — forever, not just at launch.

Checkout you're not allowed to touch

Real control over the checkout flow requires Shopify Plus, priced from roughly $2,500/mo — and even then, some logic stays off-limits by design.

Theme logic hits a wall

Liquid was built for storefront templating, not business logic. The moment you need custom pricing rules or account-tier logic, you're stuck waiting on an app that doesn't quite fit.

You're really building a platform

A wholesale portal, a multi-vendor marketplace, usage-based subscription billing — features gated behind Shopify Plus, or not on offer at any tier.

You want the code, not a lease

Every year on the platform is a year of rent. Cancel tomorrow and you keep a CSV export of your products — not the storefront itself, and not the logic behind it.

The honest answer

Shopify is still the right call if any of this is you

  • You're still validating the idea and doing under roughly 20 orders a month.
  • You need to be selling this week, not in three to six weeks.
  • Your pricing, checkout, and fulfillment are all genuinely standard — nothing custom to build.
  • There's no budget yet for an ongoing care plan behind a custom codebase.

If that's your store, stay on Shopify — we'll say so on a scoping call instead of selling you a migration you don't need yet. Come back when the app-stack bill and the transaction fees start outweighing what a fixed one-time build would have cost.

The process

The migration, without losing your rankings

This is the exact sequence we run on every Shopify migration — not a theoretical checklist. Four steps, in this order, every time.

01

Map every URL

We crawl your live Shopify store and map every product, collection, and blog URL to its new custom equivalent before anything gets built or touched.

02

Rebuild the redirects at the server

A permanent 301 for every mapped URL, live at the server level — not a client-side app.liquid redirect that search engines only half-trust.

03

Match structured data 1:1

Product, Offer, review, and breadcrumb schema rebuilt to mirror what Shopify was already emitting, so your rich results don't quietly disappear from the search results.

04

Cut over, then watch it

DNS points to the new store in minutes after weeks of staging tests. Search Console gets checked daily for 30 days after launch against a ranking baseline we capture before cutover.

What you get

What replaces Shopify, piece by piece

Nothing here is a downgrade dressed up as an upgrade — every capability Shopify gave you carries over, minus the rent.

A Laravel storefront, not a rented theme

Every screen is backend code we wrote and you own outright. Need checkout to work differently next year? We change the code — no app-store workaround required.

Zero platform lock-in

No monthly platform fee, no per-transaction cut on top of your processor's own rate, and no dependency on someone else's roadmap for your own checkout.

A real catalog, not a one-time export

Products, variants, and stock levels migrated and tied to what's actually on the shelf — not a CSV dump you spend a week fixing by hand.

Customer accounts and order history intact

Every customer record and past order carries over, so returning shoppers log in and see their history exactly like before — nothing resets to zero.

An admin dashboard your team runs

Orders, products, and customers managed from a dashboard built around how your team actually works, not a generic back office you have to adapt to.

The gateways you already use

Stripe or PayPal integrated from day one, so your existing payout setup keeps working — no re-onboarding with a new processor in the middle of a migration.

Every project, no exceptions

What's included, always

Every website we build ships with the same non-negotiable baseline — there's no stripped-down version missing SSL or analytics. This is the floor every package starts from, not an upsell.

  • Mobile-responsive on every device
  • Core Web Vitals performance tuning
  • On-page SEO, schema markup + Search Console setup
  • SSL certificate (HTTPS) on every site
  • Cross-browser testing
  • Analytics setup (GA4 + conversion tracking)
  • Spam-protected forms
  • 100% code and content ownership — no lock-in, ever
  • Accessibility-aware, WCAG-informed build
  • Post-launch support window included

Ongoing care after launch lives on our maintenance & care plans page, and full pricing across every package is on the pricing page.

FAQ

Migration — your questions

Downtime, rankings, data, and timeline — the four things every store owner asks before they commit to moving off Shopify.

Will my store go offline during the migration?
Not in any way your customers notice. The new storefront is built and tested on a staging URL while your Shopify store stays live and keeps taking orders as normal. Cutover is a DNS switch we schedule for a low-traffic window, with the DNS record's TTL lowered days in advance — the actual downtime most stores see is a few minutes, not hours.
Will I lose my Google rankings?
We won't tell you zero movement is guaranteed — no one honestly can, and we don't make guaranteed-ranking promises anywhere on this site. What we will tell you is where ranking loss actually comes from in a migration: skipped URL mapping, missing redirects, and structured data that doesn't match the old site. We map every URL, set permanent 301s at the server, and rebuild your Product and Offer schema to mirror what Shopify was already emitting — then we watch Search Console daily for 30 days after launch specifically because we take that risk seriously.
What happens to my product data, customer accounts, and order history?
All of it migrates — full product catalog with variants and images, customer accounts, and complete order history, pulled through Shopify's export tools and the Admin API and loaded into your new database before cutover. Returning customers log into the new site and see the same order history they had before; nothing resets to a blank account.
How long does a Shopify migration actually take?
Three to six weeks for a standard Commerce migration, depending on catalog size and how many custom rules you're adding on the way out. If what you're really building is a wholesale portal, multi-vendor marketplace, or something with account-tier logic underneath, that's a Custom Platform build instead, running 10–16 weeks with milestone-gated delivery.
Which package covers a Shopify migration — Commerce or Custom Platform?
Most stores land in Commerce, at $6,500 — a single catalog, single checkout, custom Laravel storefront that replaces what Shopify was doing, plus the URL mapping and redirect work described above. If your Shopify store has grown into something with vendor accounts, wholesale pricing tiers, or subscription billing logic the app store was patching over, that's Custom Platform territory, from $15,000 — the business logic underneath is different, not just the page count. We'll tell you honestly which one you actually need before you sign anything.
Do I need to cancel my Shopify subscription before you start?
No — keep it running. We build and test the new storefront on a separate staging environment while your Shopify store keeps processing real orders. Only cancel the subscription after cutover is live, verified, and you've confirmed everything (orders, customer logins, redirects) is working the way it should.
